Summary

  • Emergency responders, including the U.S. Coast Guard, are conducting a rescue operation for a man who fell off a cliff into the water at San Pedro, California. High tide conditions are complicating the rescue efforts.

Timeline

Firefighters have completed the hoist, and an LAFD helicopter is flying a 30-year-old man to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. All crews are being released from Sunken City. Earlier reports described the patient as a woman, based on initial radio traffic.

Firefighters are hoisting the woman by helicopter from the beach below Sunken City. The aircraft is landing at the Korean Friendship Bell in Angels Gate Park, where an ambulance and LAPD officers are meeting it. Her condition has not been released.

UPDATE: Firefighters say the person who fell is on the beach below Sunken City and is no longer in the water. A command post has been set up with LAPD; Central Rescue 52 is responding, and a helicopter is overhead. The Coast Guard has been requested because of high tide conditions.

A 911 caller has reported an unconfirmed incident at 630 W Paseo del Mar.

wtf why are you in a cliff at 2 am

City has to close this area off for good. So many people falling or jumping off the cliffs monthly. Hopefully this person makes a full recovery.
