But there's plenty of room down here for them to offload. Copy. Dozer 1 on your arrival, you're going to probably need to make a U-turn.

Command, do you still want 325? Yeah, stand by. Engine 511. Go for 511. Yeah, I don't know how much work you have. Do you want to keep 317 and 325? I'll keep 325 at this time. You can release 317. Their type 3 is not going to make it here and do us much good.
Sac. Metro FD Command A2 · 0:12
Fire dispatch, Elkhorn command. Fire dispatch. Yeah, I'm releasing 317. There'll be AOR, hit or leave. How's the coverage issues for B5 up in the rear?

Firefighters have brought in the tools and a dozer to assist with containment efforts.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:07
And that makes a total of five type 3s and 5s, plus the dozer.

and then head eastbound on Elkhorn and offload right behind where Battalion 5 is. Pleasure 1. Command 526, if we need to get in that grass closer, we can make access through here and go down and assist them. Yeah, if you can go ahead and do that, open that gate and then take 526 up that creek bed. 26.

Radio clips available.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:30
3-26, command, can you check that gate behind you to see if that's going to be accessible for the dozer to offload and go under the bridge? It looks like it's, I was just down there, it looks like it will be good access. I'm just sure they're a high requirement for underneath the bridge to face with them. But there's plenty of room down here for them to offload. Copy. Dozer 1 on your arrival, you're going to probably need to make a U-turn.

Firefighters are assessing the best access point for a dozer to assist with containment efforts.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:23
317. Yeah, Duane, are you familiar with the best access to try to get a dozer in to this area? There's a gate behind me that goes down into this creek bed. That might be their only access, but I'm not sure if they can take the dozer under the overpass. Yeah, I'm not familiar with the access out here for the dozer on this side.

Radio clips available.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:23
325, command. 325. Yeah, I'm not sure we're going to get your type 3 down that bike trail and across. There's a bridge. So if you can just tool up and park it behind the water tender, and then go assist tools with a mop up with 511. 325.

Firefighters are coordinating equipment access through a drainage ditch to improve containment efforts.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:12
where it is, but they should be able to head to this dry bed. If they do, we can get them parked in a little bit closer and maybe wrap this thing up in a timely fashion. Copy.
Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:30
Command, Engine 511. Go ahead. If you look off towards that bike path, can you see my headlamp? Affirmative. Is there access to put a Type 3 or a Type 5 into this drainage ditch and drive it straight over here? I've been trying to figure that one out on the map. Also, for offloading the dozer, I'm still trying to figure it out. I believe right behind where your rigs park, they can make...

Command, 317's going to leave this residence as well and head back towards Elkhorn, see where we can plug in. Command copies.
Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:17
Engine 526, if you can just tie in with that resident at 709 and check on them and then we'll have you after that's clear, go assist 511 down the bike trail. 526.
Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:24
Command, Engine 30. We're not needed back here. We'll head back over to Elkhorn unless you need us. Something else? You can head back over to Elkhorn and just confirming there's no work over on that side. Affirmative. Copy. We'll bring Engine 30 and 317 back over to Elkhorn.
Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:08
Engine 30, command. Engine 30. You guys are released. Thank you. Copy, thanks.

And what's the approximate size? One acre.

Firefighters have stopped the fire's forward progress and are beginning mop-up operations.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:30
Command, Engine 511. Go ahead. Looks like we have forward progress stopped. We're going to transition into mopping up. There is multiple trees that are going to cause snag issues, so let's continue that dozer. If we don't need any more resources on the other side, we'll probably use a couple of P lines off of 511 to get this mop-up finished. Thank you.
Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:14
Command, Engine 30. Go ahead. We've got a good 20, 30-foot dry creek bed between us and then another 100 feet between the fire and the creek bed, so we don't need any more resources back here. I copy.

Radio clips available.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:30
Engine 526, command. 526. Yeah, I'm going to have you gain access to 709 Elkhorn. It's going to be a driveway in front of the water tender. I spoke to the residents. They're going to have the gate open. If you can go do some recon on that property. Copy, we also have our type 1 with us. Copy it. I'm going to stage your type 1 behind water tender 111. Copy, ready. He's just coming.

Firefighters expect to stop the fire's forward progress soon. A dozer is en route to assist with containment.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:23
We should have forward progress stopped here in probably the next three to five minutes. I don't think it's a threat of crossing a creek at it anymore. Command, copy. Engine 511, we have dozer 1 responding. Any need for them? Access-wise, it might be difficult for the dozer, but I believe we can use some dozer work in here. Just, this is going to be a pretty dirty burn.

Access is being coordinated through a property on Elkhorn and a tank transfer is being arranged at the bike trail.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:31
Engine 511, command. Go for 511. Yeah, I've made phone contact with the residents at 709 Elkhorn. The next two pump and rolls, I'm going to have one pump and roll go to 709 to gain access there. And then the second pump and roll that arrives, I'm going to have, do a tank transfer on the bike trail for you guys. 511 copies that. We're making progress.

Firefighters have made progress on the fire's north side, with flames still 150 feet from nearby homes.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:20
Command, Engine 30. Go ahead. Looks like it's got a good knock on the fire coming towards the north, towards 3, sorry, 736K. We're going to set up Engine 30 just for structural protection at 736, but the closest flames are about at least 150 feet away from these homes. Command copies.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:17
Command copies. So on the right flank, at the heel, we're going to have engine 511, engine 541. And at the head, we're going to have engine 30 and engine 317. I've ordered two additional pump and rolls.

Firefighters have knocked down the right flank of the fire, preventing further spread in that direction.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:31
Engine 511, command. Go for 511. For orientation, we're going to call where 511 is at, the heel of the fire, if you can concur with that. Affirm. Engine 511 is going to be the heel of the fire. Just for SA, we've got what is going to be the right flank, which was originally the hot flank, knocked down right now. So it's not extending any further. We're going to be

Another engine is being sent to assist with accessing the fire behind a nearby property.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:27
Engine 30, command. Engine 30. Do you have eyes on it yet, over on your side? That's affirmative. It's right behind 736. 736 is okay right now. Trying to get best access right now. We're moving some cars around. We'll need another engine, type 1, type 3, doesn't matter, back here. Copy. I'm sending engine 317 to you.

One lane on westbound Elkhorn is blocked by fire equipment, and assistance has been requested.

Sac. Metro FD Command A2 · 0:16
We have westbound Elkhorn, one lane blocked with fire apparatus. Copy, Elkhorn, command requesting CHP, westbound Elkhorn, number one lane blocked with fire apparatus.

An additional firefighting unit is arriving via the bike trail to assist with the fire.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:10
3. Copy, and I have one additional type 5 coming down the bike trail to support you. Then we're going to have to figure out a water supplied to you.

Firefighters report the grass fire has grown to about one acre but is currently contained by a drainage creek.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:18
Go for 511. Now that you have eyes on the fire, can I get a size up? Yeah, probably about one acre, light flashy fuels, running into the Oakland. It looks like it's being contained by that drainage creek right now. Fuels are about chest high.

Radio clips available.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:20
Yeah, I'll be. We'll take that driveway on Elkhorn, see what we can do back there. Copy. Let me go down first and see if there's good access instead of having you commit. I copy.

Firefighters are positioning resources to protect a house potentially threatened by the fire.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:16
Chief, the numerics on the house that potentially may be threatened in the next 5 to 10 minutes is 736 K Street. That's affirmative. I already have Engine 30 going to 736.

Firefighters report the fire is nearing a house but has not crossed a drainage area.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:09
and it has not crossed, however, it is going to start threatening one of the houses on the other side.
Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:30
Battalion 5, Engine 511. Go ahead. The majority of this appears to be on this side of the drainage. I'm trying to make my access across it right now. But we're going to need to support that hoseway 511's putting in. Copy. So just confirming the best access is going to be on this side where you're parked at? Affirm. I made my way to the creek bed right now.

Additional firefighting resources have been requested to control the spread of the fire.

Sac. Metro FD Command A2 · 0:29
Engine 28, confirmations. Fire dispatch, Battalion 5. Fire dispatch. I'm on scene of established Elkhorn Command. We have about a half acre grass fire, moderate or spread. Go ahead and start me two additional rolls. Copy, Battalion 5, on scene with Elkhorn Command, a half acre grass fire, moderate or spread. We're requesting two of the rolls.

Firefighters are checking for additional access to the fire through nearby properties.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:27
Engine 30, command. Engine 30. Can you do some recon off of K Street? There's a driveway at the very end of K Street. Looks like the residence, the numerics is 736 K Street. And see if you have access from the backyard to one of those houses. Copy, 736 K Street.

Firefighters are setting up a hose line to tackle the quarter-acre grass fire.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:30
Chief 541's right behind you, do you want us to stage here, come up there with you? Stage there, we might have this creek in the way, might have to get, figure out on how to get to the west side of this drainage. Copy. Battalion 5's on scene, I got Elkhorn command. Right now it looks to be about a quarter acre fire and some light flashing fuel. Battalion 5's on scene.
Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:19
Battalion 5, we're going to initiate a progressive hose leg off of Engine 511 at this time. While we're doing that, I'm going to get some SA and see if we've got fire on both sides of this drainage right now. Command copies. Are you able to pull off the bike trail so we have access to drive by you?

Firefighters are accessing the fire from the north via a nearby bike trail.

Sac. Metro FD Tac A6 · 0:15
B5, this is Fire 1 coming up behind you. We're making access to the north of this on Elkhorn. We're going to be heading north on the bike trail off of Elrond.

Additional firefighting units are en route to the grass fire.

That’s crazy be because the station is hella close

fernleyUser2442217005Oct 1 at 3:58 AM

it is hella close but I have seen it before where the fire trucks are locked out from being able to get on the bike trail. almost as if only one or two people have the key and the rest just scramble around until he gets there to unlock it. don't get me wrong our firemen do a great job, just sometimes it seems things could go smoother
