LASD SIB: On Sunday, September 13, 2026, at approximately 6:50 p.m., officers from the El Monte Police Department responded to the 5100 block of Elrovia Avenue in the city of El Monte regarding a house on fire call. Information in the call stated a male had lit a house on fire and was armed with a rifle. Upon arrival, officers located an adult White male standing in the driveway of the location armed with a rifle. The home was engulfed in flames, and the front lawn was smoldering. A brief standoff occurred between the male and the officers. During the standoff officers attempted to deescalate the situation and negotiate with the male to have him surrender the rifle. Officers also utilized less lethal weapons on the male during the standoff.
At 11:30pm the streets are still blocked off.
