Domestic dispute according to neighbors. Resulted in this. It was an rv on fire with a loud explosion, most likely a propane tank in my experience, setting it off. The neighbor sustained first degree burns attempting to put out the fire. It does not appear any investigation is being pursued, as only bart pd was on scene and the lone bpd was busy watching YouTube in her truck. As a homeless aspiring attorney I can attest to the complete lack of follow up in cases involving the homeless. We are people too and deserve the same civil rights and equal protection under the 14th amendment:""nor shall any State ... deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws".
The address on the map isn't accurate - I think that's where the op first spotted the fire. The actual location is the encampment on Kirkham between 7th & 5th. Man, it looks like a bombed-out warzone there, and probably didn't look that much better before the fire,
You’re right on the spot—it was Kirkham by BART. As for why it looks the way it does: imagine your neighborhood if the City cut off your trash service entirely. We aren’t allowed to request or pay for municipal pickup here. Self-hauling is the only option—until OPD and Public Works impound the vehicles we use to haul it. Last month, they towed my registered, legally owned truck during a scheduled "cleaning" where zero cleaning took place. They arrived at 10 AM, took my truck, and left by 11. The city creates the mess by stripping away every tool people have to keep it clean.
