Off-duty cop drunk and messing around with his gun.
My guess... Most Police firearms today are " striker" fired firearms.. The firing pin is held back ( cocked) internally ready to firearms as they are designed to do. Most have no external safeties besides an extra piece on the trigger... Problems happen when someone tries to put the firearm into a holster and something gets caught up on the trigger, like a piece of clothing and while pushing into the holster the firearm goes " bang"... and accidentally discharge.. Hope the officer and others learn from his mistake and fully recovers..

Hhmm. I knew of a Detective who shot accidentally shot himself in the leg cleaning his Off Duty Service Weapon. He died. I knew of another one who retired and then killed himself after he found out that his wife was cheating on him. Every year at least 3 or 4 Police Officer's will commit Suicide. Respect the Officer. 👮
Yeah but this was an accidental one. Not trying to die.
Cleaning his gun and it went off? Retrain immediately.
