North Charleston Police say that at about 8:30 p.m. on July 4 a permitted block party in the Chicora-Cherokee neighborhood erupted in gunfire and multiple fights; officers intervened, recovered firearms and a makeshift spear, and made several arrests. Two female officers sustained minor injuries during the response.
