Naw it's not a trend, accidents happen and that's the entire purpose of having home owners insurance, I have home owners insurance on mine and I've had it since I have owned my home, and if someone has a mortgage it's actually become mandatory to have home owners insurance, they can't deny you unless you have a prior record for insurance fraud or a arson conviction
