The suspect then ran from the scene. The Mazda driver, a 30-year-old man, sustained serious injuries that later became life-threatening.
Police later found the Hyundai on North Clinton Avenue near Ketchum Street and tried to stop it. Police said the driver fled, and officers chased the vehicle for less than a minute to Seneca Avenue and Route 104, where it crashed into a Mazda CX-3.
Police said the Hyundai then came down Joseph Avenue, turned the wrong way onto Sullivan Street, and accelerated toward officers. The Hyundai hit the open rear door of the police vehicle, which shut on the Jeep driver’s legs. Officers were not hit.
Before the stop, officers also saw a white Hyundai Sonata that they believed may have been linked to the Jeep. During the stop, officers learned the 21-year-old driver of the Jeep did not have a valid license. Officers had him sit in the back of a police vehicle.
