Detectives later discovered Husein had been involved in a crime spree the prior weekend involving multiple armed carjackings and armed robberies, SJPD reported. This included The theft of a red Corvette from a dealership and two store robberies on the 17th, and two more armed robberies on the 18th.
The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Mohamed Husien, who was prohibited from firearm possession as a convicted felon.
The suspect eventually tried to carjack an SJPD patrol vehicle, then fled on foot. Officers fired at him, and the suspect fell to the ground and was struck by a patrol vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the SJPD release.
The suspect crashed near Julian Street and Notre Dame Avenue in downtown San Jose. After the crash, he exited and shot at a San Jose Police Sergeant, striking him in the head and fracturing his skull. The sergeant is expected to survive.
The suspect managed to carjack another vehicle and continued fleeing, driving at high speeds back toward San Jose on the freeway. SJPD took over the pursuit when the suspect re-entered the city.
