Summary

  • A multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 near Los Feliz Boulevard in Los Angeles resulted in one death and six injuries, including two critical. The crash involved at least six vehicles, leading to a full closure of the northbound lanes for several hours as emergency services responded and cleared the scene.

Timeline

A follow-up unit shadowed the evidence tow truck to the impound yard just after 8:00 a.m.

The CHP issued a SigAlert and extended it several times throughout the morning while investigators finished their work.

As the morning progressed, crews opened the Los Feliz off-ramp and the number four lane to traffic.

Navarros Towing responded to the scene to tow a vehicle for evidence.

Officers worked to recover evidence on the 5.

The transportation management center requested specific confirmation on which off-ramp stayed open for the diverted traffic.

An officer eventually cleared the way for vehicles to begin exiting at the off-ramp after using flares to block off the first four lanes of the main freeway.

By 3:40 a.m., officers worked to open the Los Feliz Boulevard off-ramp to help move congested traffic.

A supervisor from Caltrans responded to the scene with an arrival time of approximately 60 minutes.

An officer estimated the closure would last at least one hour and notified the media through the transportation management center.

The collision blocked all lanes, including the carpool lane, per CHP.

Officers coordinated with Caltrans for a hard closure of the freeway and requested four tow trucks from Jons Towing, LA Car Carrier, and City Terrace Towing.

Fire crews requested a full shutdown of the northbound lanes to handle the wreckage and treat the injured.

911 callers reported that two people appeared unresponsive.

One white vehicle rolled over onto its side and sat blacked out in the lanes, while another white sedan faced the wrong way.

A fatal collision occurred involving five or six vehicles. The crash included three black vehicles, a gray vehicle, a white sedan that spun out, and a van that struck the center divider.

A 911 caller has reported an unconfirmed incident at Interstate Highway 5 N & Los Feliz Blvd.

To be honest I don’t know how I’m even here. Something took over I almost hit the white car there were no lights everything was black and then there was a car just feet in front of me as I was going 65 miles mph just moments from slamming into it. How I swerved and missed this car and swerved back to miss debris and not flip my car I really have no idea. It was some amazing Guardian Angles at work for me this morning. I feel sad for who ever lost their life this morning.

I'm sick and tired of people driving dangerously and putting other people's lives in danger

When will cops start pulling people over again? The reckless driving in the SF Valley is beyond out of control. People are dying constantly 😞

Just want to share the gospel.Whoever is reading this, please remember and know that God loves you so much. Jesus gave His life so that we could be saved, free from sin, and walk in victory. It’ll be sad to wait to build a relationship with God in Heaven while you don’t spend anytime with him here on earth, heaven is for those who know Him and walk with Him here on earth. The things of this world may look tempting, but they’re only distractions meant to pull us away from His purpose. Nothing is worth eternal separation from God nothing. Please turn to Him, repent, and let Him be Lord over your life. His arms are open wide, ready to receive you. Life is sooo much better with him I’m living proof.
