The Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, said he will ask the Secretary of the Army to send 500 additional National Guard troops to Washington, DC.

According to local news sources that obtained footage of the shooting, the suspect fired three shots at the guardsmen in what appeared to be an ambush, before any return fire occurred.

The press conference will be held at 17th Street and K Street NW.

In a post just now on X, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey said, "We are now receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members and will provide additional updates once we receive more complete information. Our prayers are with these brave service members, their families, and the entire Guard community."

The ground stop at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport has been lifted.

WV Gov. Patrick Morrisey said on social media that both of the National Guard troops died from their injuries. Both members were part of the West Virginia National Guard.

Officials say the National Guard soldiers were identified as a man and a woman.

Officials say the suspected gunman, who is in custody, was also shot, presumably by National Guardsmen returning fire. The suspect has reportedly been taken to the George Washington University Hospital.

Officials will hold a press conference soon. Stay with Citizen for updates.

A post from President Trump and local news reports say both Guardsmen are in critical condition.

In a statement from the National Guard, they are aware of the unfolding situation and are working closely with local police.

There is a ground stop at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport as a result of this incident.

New reports suggest three people were injured in the shooting. One person was reportedly taken to a hospital via a med-evac helicopter, and the other two were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

According to a post on X from the Metro Police Department, the scene has been secured, and a suspect is in custody.

Reports now say there is a possible active shooter at the Main Treasury and Freedman's Bank building, which is located a few streets away.

An alert went out saying: All personnel at the Main Treasury and Freedman’s Bank Building are to immediately LOCKDOWN by doing the following: Hide in a locked office or behind large furniture. Remain silent and silence all phones. Personnel and guests are not encouraged to run out of a building unless immediately near an exit to avoid running into the threat. Hide in a locked office or behind large furniture. Turn off all lights, and close the blinds or curtains. Disable personnel phone. Lock all doors and windows immediately. Never open doors or windows unless ordered to do so by a safety or school official. Stay low and away from the windows and doors.

The White House is currently under a lockdown, according to the President of the White House Foreign Media Group.

Video from the scene shows a large police presence.

One person on scene reports that a National Guardsman was injured in the shooting.

This report remains unconfirmed by official sources at this time, but a social media user reports that police are blocking off the area.

According to updates sourced via Samdesk and social media users, a shooting has taken place at Farragut Square.

You don’t have to be pro-military to believe that these individuals should’ve been able to keep their lives. Wishing their families the utmost peace during this tragic time. 💔
