Summary

Police shot and killed a man who reportedly threatened to shoot up Mount Sinai Hospital on the Upper East Side Thursday night.

The incident began in a residential building on Madison Avenue, where the 20-year-old suspect allegedly pointed a gun at another man in an elevator.

He then fled to a nearby deli, where he told an employee to call 911 while threatening to shoot up the hospital. The suspect also reportedly stole the employee’s phone.

Minutes later, police say the suspect entered, exited, and re-entered Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was confronted by an off-duty NYPD officer working security.

After a brief struggle, the suspect managed to flee on foot while the officer called for backup.

Additional officers arrived and encountered the suspect between East 95th and 96th Streets, where he fired his gun at them, with multiple civilians in the line of fire as they exited an MTA bus.

Officers returned fire, and the suspect was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Unfortunately the youth of today lack discipline and respect for others. Personally I think that parents need to be placed on blast instead of being anonymous… Remember charity starts at home when their children are little…

JTyson630Nov 14 at 6:53 AM

@Ron57 blaming the parent is like blaming the gun, when the focus should go solely onto the personality of the individual who is doing the crime. There is a reason why the term “Black sheep” exists. The Black sheep typically rebels against the teachings of the parents or authorities. I’m sure he never watched his parents die in a shootout with police officers after intentionally luring them to a shootout. It takes a special kind of crazy to do that and a very strong hatred towards police officers.
