FFs, Police, EMS see death and destruction every day. The person in the vehicle has been pronounced dead. Anyone else that was a critical pt has been transported. People asking why they MIGHT be laughing simply do not understand the amount of trauma these guys see daily. You find ways to compartmentalize and not let it destroy your mental health. The reality of the situation is these guys will go back to the station after this. They will hope they can get a cup of coffee or some breakfast before the next call. By lunch time this will be tucked away somewhere for them to involuntarily revisit when they retire.
