Per an NYPD press conference, officers responded to a report of a man armed with a gun inside a black Jeep Wrangler in the Home Depot parking lot. Units quickly arrived at the scene and encountered gunfire. The officers ordered the male to drop his weapon multiple times, but he did not comply. The suspect then pointed his gun at responding units. Five officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect multiple times. The officers performed life-saving measures. However, the male was pronounced deceased at a local hospital. The officers were evaluated at a local hospital, but fortunately, were not injured in the incident. The suspect’s weapon and ammunition were recovered at the scene. The shooting was also captured on body-worn cameras, as well as multiple security cameras in the shopping plaza.

At approximately 5:20 a.m., officers received a report of a man armed with a gun inside a vehicle. Upon arrival, shots were fired and the male was struck multiple times. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The officers were also taken to a local hospital for evaluation. No officers were injured during the incident. Multiple units remain on scene to conduct an investigation, including NYPD Emergency Service Unit (ESU), Force Investigation Division (FID) and NYPD Highway Units. An NYPD press conference is expected to begin at 8:30 a.m.
