Summary

  • FDNY officials said that two people, including a Buddhist monk, died in a fire that started after a space heater caught fire in a building housing a Buddhist temple.

Timeline

According to fire officials, the blaze started accidentally after a space heater was left running too close to clothing and other combustible materials.

According to an article by the Associated Press, one of the victims was identified as a monk of the temple, who had existing health problems. The fire damaged the small temple, located inside a white, two-story townhouse, and a residence for monks in a home next door.

FDNY officials said that two people died in the fire. The first victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second victim was pronounced after being taken to the hospital. The victims were found in a building next to the one that had the temple. Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire and whether smoke alarms were installed or functioning. Firefighters were hampered in their efforts by a car that was blocking a fire hydrant. The Red Cross is also on hand to help five people who have been displaced.

The owner of the car that was parked blocking hydrant should be arrested and charged with murder. 2 people died because of their actions. Disgusting.
