In a recent update, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said police have reason to believe the suspect has left NYC after he was seen at a Port Authority Bus terminal after the shooting. Police are urging the public to come forward with any information.
The medical examiner is currently testing items that were believed to be handled by the shooter, including a burner cell phone and a water bottle, in hopes of finding DNA evidence.
Newly found surveillance video shows the suspect appearing to dump something onto a pile of trash bags near the murder site, shortly before the shooting. The footage was recorded on West 55th Street at 6:19 a.m. on Wednesday.
An employee at the hostel asked the shooter to lower his mask during a flirtation, which is when the images released of his face were captured, via law enforcement officials.
The shooter reportedly paid the hostel he was staying in with cash, reported CNN via law enforcement sources. He arrived in New York 10 days before the shooting occurred.
The suspect traveled to New York from Atlanta on a Greyhound bus prior to the shooting, according to law enforcement sources via CNN. He arrived in NYC on November 24th—10 days before the shooting. It is unclear if he boarded in Atlanta or during another stop on the journey.
Police confirmed that the gray backpack the gunman was seen wearing during the shooting was made by the brand Peak Design, which is known for its "distinctive" backpacks, per detectives during a news conference.
Sources say police conducted an extensive search of Central Park yesterday in an attempt to locate the gray backpack the suspected gunman was seen wearing before and during the shooting. Police deployed mobile field forces to search through garbage cans, dumpsters, and bushes but were unsuccessful in finding the backpack. The search was initiated after new video emerged showing the suspect, no longer wearing the backpack, exiting the park at West 77th Street shortly after fleeing the scene of the crime.
The gunman may have checked into the Upper West Side hostel with a fake New Jersey ID, sources told the NY Post.
Police are processing evidence collected near the scene, including a water bottle they believe the gunman purchased at a nearby Starbucks shortly before the shooting. A fingerprint was lifted from the bottle but is smudged, a law enforcement official told CNN.
Two new images showing the full face of the gunman without a mask have been released as the manhunt continues. The suspect appears to be wearing a different backpack than the one he wore during the shooting.
The hostel is on 103rd St and Amsterdam Avenue, law enforcement sources told CNN. A single photo of the suspect not wearing a mask may have been captured there. Police have not yet released the photo.
Police are said to have obtained new surveillance images of the suspect at a hostel on the Upper West Side, according to CNN. The suspect is believed to have shared a room with two other people, but kept his face mask on for the "majority" of his stay.

Words were found on the bullets used to kill Thompson yesterday, according to news reports. "Deny," "depose," and "defend" were engraved on rounds left at the scene, and may be a reference to a 2010 book critical of the insurance industry.
The suspect is now believed to have been carrying an e-bike battery, per a report from CNN, and may have taken the subway from the Upper West Side to Midtown on the morning of the crime. Detectives found a phone that is believed to have belonged to the gunman, in addition to a bottle of water he purchased at a Starbucks right before the shooting. Detectives also said that they believe the suspect was an "experienced marksman."
Three new photos released by the NYPD show the suspect reportedly in a Starbucks at West 56th Street and 6th Avenue before the shooting.
Thompson had been the subject of "some threats" before he was killed, his wife told NBC News. "There had been some threats,” Paulette Thompson said. “Basically [about], I don’t know, a lack of coverage? I don't know the details. I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him."
The NYPD is asking for the public's help in finding and apprehending the suspect. The reward for information leading to an arrest is now $10,000.
The suspect was last seen in Central Park. The gunman is described as a light skinned male, wearing a light brown or cream colored jacket, a black face mask, black and white sneakers and a "very distinctive" gray backpack.
The suspect was "lying in wait" and arrived to the scene about five minutes before the victim, the NYPD said in an update. This was not a random attack, but was "preplanned and premeditated," authorities added. "Many people passed the suspect, but he appeared to wait for his intended target." “The shooter steps onto the sidewalk from behind the car, he ignores numerous other pedestrians, approaches the victim from behind and shoots him in the back,” the NYPD said. “The shooter then walks toward the victim and continues to shoot. It appears that the gun malfunctions as he clears the jam and continues to fire again.” The shooter then fled on foot northbound in an alleyway between 54th and 55th Streets. At West 55th, the shooter got on an electric bike and rode northbound.
The man who was shot outside the Midtown Hilton this morning was the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, according to news reports. Brian Thompson, 50, was shot around 6:45 a.m. in what may have been a targeted attack. The suspect, wearing a cream-colored jacket, black face mask and a gray backpack, fled east on Sixth Avenue and has not been caught.
According to an article from the New York Post, the victim has been pronounced deceased after this morning's shooting outside the Hilton Midtown Hotel.
According to officers on the scene, the man's injuries are life-threatening.
A 911 caller has reported an unconfirmed incident at 1335 6th Ave.
