  • At least one person was critically injured after a blaze broke out in a multistory apartment building in Chinatown.

Timeline

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Major Crimes Division is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for an arson in Central Division. On September 13, 2024, at 3:43 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to a fully involved fire on the 700 block of New Depot Street in a three-story apartment building under construction. Four other occupied residential, multi-story apartment complexes were also exposed to the fire. Mass evacuations of the adjacent occupied apartments occurred because of these fires. An elderly tenant sustained a smoke inhalation injury, and another female tenant sustained burn injuries to her hands and arms. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries. Anyone with information is urged to call Major Crimes Detective Allen or Detective Nuñez at (213) 486-7260. During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1(877) LAPD-24-7 (877)527-3247. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or go directly to www.lacrimestoppers.org. Lastly, tipsters may also download the “P-3 Tips” mobile application and select the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers as their local program.

I hope the developers who let this construction sit for nearly two years are held to account

@kateantons they probably started it. Insurance pays the value of what the property was expected to be valued at. Regardless of what stage in construction it was actually in.

Why are people so ignorant & hateful in posting their personal political opinions. People loss their homes everything they own they’re lucky to be alive. How about thanking our hard working LAFD trying to put out all the fires in California?!

@ilo250 thank you hard working LAFD

horny4ramenSep 13 at 4:40 AM

I hope everyone had enough time to evacuate with any pets they have.

I always trusted the democrats but they’ve been in charge for so long and it’s only gotten worse. Criminals and citizens have more rights in LA than tax paying citizens. If you think your vote doesn’t matter think again! Do your research and vote for a better future for our kids.
