On September 13, 2024, at 3:43 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to a fully involved fire on the 700 block of New Depot Street in a three-story apartment building under construction. Four other occupied residential, multi-story apartment complexes were also exposed to the fire. Mass evacuations of the adjacent occupied apartments occurred because of these fires. An elderly tenant sustained a smoke inhalation injury, and another female tenant sustained burn injuries to her hands and arms. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
