Summary

  • Tensions are high over plans to open a homeless shelter on 86th Street in Bensonhurst. Since the proposal last fall, residents, business owners, and politicians have expressed concerns about crime and safety, forming an anti-shelter group called "Residents Against Homeless Shelters."
  • Protests have been frequent, as seen in Citizen user videos, with demonstrators carrying signs and voicing fears about the impact on community safety, particularly for children in nearby schools.
  • Despite opposition, city officials are committed to the shelter, highlighting the area's lack of such facilities and emphasizing the need for equitable distribution of resources. Assemblyman William Colton and other opponents argue the shelter will exacerbate existing problems, while city representatives assert the shelter is essential to support vulnerable individuals in the community.

According to the city's Department of Homeless and Social Services, the site will house 150 homeless men, including those experiencing mental health challenges. There have been a lot of protests lately. Let’s join in and increase our numbers to oppose the government building a homeless shelter here! We can create affordable housing instead of a shelter for 150 men. This location is awful—just 0.3 miles (a 6-minute walk) from PS 97 and the Hebrew Language Academy Charter School 2 (HLA2) at 1870 Stillwell Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11223, and only 0.7 miles (a 15-minute walk) from IS 228!

Seems like a lot of hater here… I guess they all assume Asian family got money because they grow money tree at home? These Asian families worked extra hours and extra jobs to get what they have now. For those haters, please shut up and go find a job.

@Notsurewhattoname Democrats don’t like to hear stories of immigrants like Asians coming here with nothing & making their American dream come true with no help from the government! American first, that includes its citizens! Trump 2024!
