By the way saying “teach your kids to swim so they can be in the ocean”, is just as naive as swimming when the water is rough. It doesn’t matter how many lessons one gets. It doesn’t matter if someone “knows how to swim well”, etc. the ocean is a beast, it’s no match for any human. The young man that drowned a few years ago was by the rock Jetty on 88th, only up to his waist. He knew how to swim well, had friends with him and wasn’t in too deep. The rip current/undertow took him in minutes. You should never let any child that knows how to swim in a pool think they can be a match against the Rockaway Beaches!
