The officer and his partner engaged with the suspect and a brief struggle ensued. The suspect fired one shot, striking the officer in the hip and fled the scene. - The injured officer was taken to a local hospital in the back of an NYPD police van, where he underwent surgery to repair a broken bone and a “nicked” artery.
