17-Year-Old Shot Multiple Times Near School on Upper West Side, Suspect Arrested in Yellow Cab One Block Away

Police officials say they arrested the shooting suspect, a 19-year-old man, one block away in a yellow cab. They recovered a firearm. The NYPD stated that the shooting did not occur within the school, and they advised that the victim is out of surgery. The investigation is ongoing.

Additionally, officers advise a teenager was shot during this incident that occurred outside the Martin Luther King Jr. Educational Campus. The victim is reported to be in critical, but stable condition at a local hospital.

Why now is there a “press conference” ONLY after a shooting took place in a more wealthy neighborhood (UWS) and not when it happened in Harlem? This is the very definition of systematic racism. The perception is that it doesn’t matter when happening in poorer areas, but “call the press” when it happens on the tony UWS. It should be equally alarming to ALL citizens of NYC, no matter the neighborhood. SMH

@HappyBean03 that area isn’t exactly posh. There are some projects around this school, so it’s kind of a mixed wealth area. My kid went to school in that complex and it’s definitely not wealthy nor is it predominately white, nor are the residential areas around it.
