The suspect wanted in connection to yesterday’s fatal shooting of a Temple University police officer has been arrested, police say. The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Miles Pfeffer, a resident of Bucks County. Police have also identified the police officer who was killed: Christopher Fitzgerald, who is survived by his wife, four children, and his own parents. Pfeffer was arrested just after 7:00 a.m. this morning on Quarry Road in Buckingham Township. The arresting team was comprised of Philadelphia Police, Pennsylvania State Police, the Bucks County CERT team, and US Marshals. The suspect is charged with murder, murder of a law enforcement officer, and other related offenses. Pfeffer is being held without bail. Law enforcement placed the suspect into custody using officer Fitzgerald's handcuffs. "It's a tradition that we do any time there's a fallen officer, and we thought it was important to remember Ofc. Fitzgerald... by placing his cuffs on the suspect," said Supervisor Deputy U.S. Marshal Rob Clark.
Police are searching the area with a K9 unit. They believe the suspect fled their vehicle near a corner store and hid in a nearby house.
Police advise that the suspect's vehicle struck another vehicle while fleeing the scene.
Police say they have located the suspect vehicle, which was abandoned at 30th & Sedgely Ave.
Police have confirmed that the officer was pronounced deceased.
Police say that homicide detectives are interviewing eyewitnesses.
Police have stopped an additional person of interest for questioning.
Police advise that the officer was shot in the head while investigating a carjacking.
The two individuals stopped earlier by police do not appear to be suspects.
The suspect may have fled northbound on N 16th St from W Berks St.
Police advise that the suspect may have fled in a stolen black Infiniti Q60 with plates reading LNT4776. It was last seen traveling eastbound on W Berks St from N 18th St.
Officers have stopped two potential suspects near the scene.
Officers are canvassing the area for a male suspect who fled the scene.
Police are rushing an injured officer to the hospital.
