Actually haz mat is dispatched for gas leaks due to the complexity of where the leak is originating and it’s unknown if there are other gases involved. There are more gases that smell like rotten eggs from the identifying chemicals added. And someone stated that co2 is odorless, true but what people need to watch out for is co. And sick signs with co are a late symptom.
Smell gas? Leave the area and report it. Don’t assume someone else has done it.
