Six Injured, Three Critically, After Taxi Struck Cyclist, Crashed Into Bagel Shop

Six people were injured when a yellow cab hit a bicyclist, drove onto the sidewalk, and pinned pedestrians against a wall Monday afternoon in Manhattan, officials said.

According to a police press conference at the scene, 15 to 20 bystanders tried to lift the taxi off of two victims at the scene.

The collision happened around 1 p.m. at W. 29th Street and Broadway.

Officials stated a cab driver going west on 29th Street was turning left onto Broadway when he struck a bicyclist who was traveling southbound on Broadway.

Police said video showed the cab slowed down, continued to veer left, and drove onto the sidewalk.

The vehicle then appeared to speed up. It hit two woman and pressed them against a wall.

At this point, bystanders jumped in to help and tried to pick up the cab to rescue the two pinned victims.

FDNY responded quickly to the scene, police said.

A total of six people were taken to the hospital, including the cab driver.

Three of the victims were in critical condition, police stated.
