At 2:45 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 420 East 143rd Street.
Upon arrival, crews located a building that was engulfed in flames.
The blaze was also spreading to three adjoining buildings, FDNY Assistant Chief Kevin Brennan said.
Brennan said they also discovered a parked car was blocking a fire hydrant, and he urged people to never park in front of fire hydrants.
A third alarm was called, bringing over 100 firefighters and EMS personnel to the scene.
Citizen user videos captured crews working to extinguish the massive blaze. The footage showed firefighters still spraying water on the building to put out any remaining hotspots at around 7:30 a.m.
The fire was placed under control at around 6:07 a.m., more than three hours after crews arrived.
Brennan said one firefighter sustained minor injuries.
Radio transmissions from the scene indicated a civilian may have also been injured, but this was not confirmed in Brennan's statement, which was shared on the FDNY Instagram page.

Stop blocking hydrants!!!
The city took park ing spots from motorists when they took cash from restaurants to extend tables into streets. Remove those tables that are not being used to bring parking spaces. I’m glad the firefighters are ok
ppl parking at the hydrant is common nowadays. the city has taken away all parking garages and put up bldgs. I'm glad everyone is safe tho
