Summary

Two residents were killed and two others, as well as a firefighter, were injured when a fire broke out in a six-story apartment building in the heart of Chinatown early Friday morning.

At about 3:48 a.m., firefighters responded to a 911 call of a fire on the fifth floor of 80 Mulberry St.

Officials said it started on the fifth floor and spread to the floor above.

A second alarm was declared, utilizing more than 100 firefighters, and the fire was brought under control before 6 a.m.

Officials said that a 52-year-old man died at the scene, and a 91-year-old woman died after being transported to a hospital in critical condition.
