At around 7 p.m., firefighters responded to 138-18 101st Avenue for a report of a commercial building fire.
Upon arrival, crews located heavy smoke coming from 101 Plumbing & Electrical Supplies.
FDNY Acting Chief of Department John Hodgens said heavy flames inside the building caused several collapses.
Citizen user videos captured crews working to extinguish the flames from outside the building.
Over the course of two hours, additional alarms were called until the blaze was eventually raised to a fifth alarm, bringing more than 200 FDNY members to the scene.
Hodgens noted there were "water supply issues which hindered the operation.”
The fire was placed under control at 1:12 a.m., six hours after firefighters first responded.
