Summary
- A leak during the processing of an epoxy caused a large cloud and odor at a chemical plant in Atwater Village Thursday morning.
- At around 8:40 a.m., a small valve broke during the processing of “Reninfusion 8610" at the Huntsman Chemical plant in the 4500 block of Electronics Place.
- The break caused a large cloud to be released which caused a lingering odor.
- Citizen user @Stu_Mundel showed aerial footage of the grayish smoke-like haze from a helicopter.
- Firefighters responded and advised residents in the area to shelter in place, but said that anyone wishing to evacuate should travel south of Electronics Place.
- HazMat Squad members investigated and determined that there were no readings on their equipment that caused any concern.
- In a statement, the LAFD said the leak was "static" and no additional leaks or releases were occurring.
- Additionally, the LAFD said that any corrosive properties of the epoxy can only occur in its liquid form.

Why is it that I’m notified of every elderly person airlifted out of Griffith every stabbing but not when a deadly airborne chemical is rampant near us? Like no news no alerts no texts nothing. Very hush hush and I’m someone that doesn’t avoid news.
@a_unser you replied to the notification. Okay Ken.
They always report that “no harm” was done but this is only to cover up !!! Residents should definitely look into the fallout !!!!!!
False.
Epoxy is definitely harmful to breath in- as someone who works with it and was trained not to breath in its fumes
They need to call Homer back to the power plant, but he's probably @ Moe's getting hammered for St. Patty's Day !
