- An off-duty police officer shot a stabbing suspect in the Upper West Side Friday morning, officials said.
- At around 7 a.m., an off-duty officer working at a Duane Reade near W. 94th Street and Broadway noticed two men arguing inside the store and ordered them to leave.
- After they left the store, one of the men, a 44-year-old, stabbed the other man in the left arm and began running.
- The off-duty officer followed behind and the suspect turned toward him with the knife in his hand.
- The officer then fired at the suspect, striking him in the left arm and leg, the NYPD said in a statement.
- Police arrived shortly after and transported the suspect to an area hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. He has been arrested and is pending charges.
- Additionally, medics transported the victim, a 66-year-old, to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
- The officer was also transported to an area hospital in stable condition, police did not report if he was injured in the confrontation.
