- An armed man was fatally shot by police after leading them on a chase on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn, officials said.
- At around 4 p.m., an officer in an unmarked car pulled over a gray Jeep Cherokee for speeding.
- As the officer got out to approach the car, the driver sped off.
- The officer gave chase and got their vehicle in front of the Jeep in an attempt to stop it. However, the driver rear-ended the police car and continued on the Belt Parkway.
- With assistance from the highway police, officers were able to pull the Jeep over about 200 yards east of the Bay Avenue Parkway entrance.
- According to a briefing from Chief Rodney Harrison, the 65-yar-old driver left the Jeep and reached into the back where he pulled out a handgun.
- Officers exited their vehicle and told the man to stop and put down his gun. After he continued to advance, multiple officers fired their guns at him.
- Units gave the man first aid and requested EMS to the scene.
- Medics responded and took the man to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
- Several officers were transported to area hospitals for evaluation.
- Detectives recovered the handgun from the scene and are continuing to investigate.

Backup units were requested to bring the vehicle to a stop when a 65-year-old man got out of the vehicle and walked toward officers with a gun. Numerous verbal commands were given by police to drop the gun, but he continued toward officers. Police fired multiple shots, striking the man several times.
The driver sped away when an officer approached the vehicle and an officer began to pursue the suspect. The officer positioned a patrol car in front of the vehicle and was rear-ended by the suspect near the Verrazano bridge.
According to the NYPD Chief, several officers were involved in a fatal shooting after police stopped a gray Jeep Cherokee for speeding.
Police announced that both directions of traffic on the Belt Parkway are blocked at exit 5.
Police added that they are not searching for any suspects.
