Two Women Shot by Off-Duty Officer

An off-duty police officer broke into a home and shot two people in Bensonhurst Wednesday afternoon, officials say.

Police responded to a report of a shooting in a residence near 19th Avenue and 79th Street shortly after 5:00 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers were approached by a woman who stated she had shot two people within the house.

Officers located a 23-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the chest and a 24-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to the torso.

Medics transported both victims to an area hospital, where the 23-year-old woman was pronounced deceased.

A spokesman from the NYPD stated that the suspect is a patrolwoman from the Brooklyn South precinct. She was detained at the scene.

The Kings County District Attorney's Office is assisting homicide detectives in their investigation.
