Triple Shooting Suspect Fatally Shot by Police

NYPD officers fatally shot a man who pointed a firearm at them following a triple shooting in Bushwick Thursday night, police said.

In a briefing Friday morning, officials said that officers responded to Halsey Street and Wilson Avenue at approximately 10:30 p.m. after hearing gunshots.

The officers exited their vehicle and approached a group of people gathered in front of a liquor store at 1195A Halsey Street.

There were three individuals at the scene with apparent gunshot wounds. Witnesses told the officers that an armed man fled the scene on foot, and the officers immediately set out after the suspect, officials said.

The officers had their bodyworn cameras activated at this time, police said.

Police said the officers approached a man half way down the block, crouched on the sidewalk outside 520 Wilson Ave, holding a firearm.

Police said the officers gave commands to drop the weapon, but he instead raised it toward the officers. At that moment, the officers shot the man.

He was transported to Wyckoff Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect's firearm was recovered at the scene, police said.

The three victims who were shot earlier were being treated at area hospitals Friday morning.

An investigation is active by the Force Investigation Division and the Detective Bureau, officials said.
