Summary

Six people were injured in a hit-and-run in Claremont early Sunday morning, officials said.

At approximately 2:46 a.m, police responded to a report that multiple pedestrians had been struck by a car in the 1400 block of Sheridan Avenue.

When they arrived, officers discovered a 39-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman with cuts to their faces, a 16-year-old boy with a foot injury, and a 41-year-old woman with a broken leg.

Medics transported the four to an area hospital, where they were listed in stable condition.

A 16-year-old boy with a broken leg and a 34-year-old woman with severe body trauma were also trapped under the vehicle, police reported.

FDNY officials arrived at the scene and rescued the two trapped under the vehicle.

Medics transported the woman to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

The 16-year-old boy was also transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

The NYPD reported that the suspect was driving a gray four-door Jeep Wrangler and jumped the curb at East 170th Street and Sheridan Avenue, striking the six sitting at the corner.

The driver crashed into a metal fence, pinning two people under his car.

Passersby attempted to prevent the driver from fleeing the scene, grabbing him and holding him down while waiting for police to arrive.

A passenger fled the Jeep and ran southbound on Sheridan Avenue, returning shortly with multiple others, including an armed man.

According to the NYPD, one of the new arrivals fired a gun into the air, causing the crowd to release the driver.

The driver, passenger, and gunman fled the scene, running southbound on Sheridan Avenue onto Marcy Place.

No arrests have been made. This investigation is ongoing
