Retired NYPD Officer Killed in Double Shooting in Kensington

A retired NYPD officer was killed and another man was wounded during a struggle outside a pizzeria in Kensington, Brooklyn, Monday night.

The men were shot by a retired corrections officer who was also involved in the altercation, officials said.

The incident happened at about 7 p.m. near the corner of E. 3rd Street and Church Avenue.

NYPD officials said in a briefing that a 33-year-old man was involved in an argument with an 86-year-old man at Korner Pizza.

A 57-year-old former police officer and a 53-year-old former corrections officer attempted to intervene, confronting the 33-year-old, officials said.

A physical fight ensued between the three men, continuing out of the restaurant and down the block.

During the course of the struggle, the former corrections officer drew his firearm and discharged it, striking both of the other men, an NYPD statement said.

The retired police officer was shot in the torso and the 33-year-old was struck in the arm.

EMS responded and transported both victims to the hospital. The officer was later pronounced dead and the 33-year-old was in stable condition.

No arrests have been reported. The incident remains under investigation.
