One person was killed and a dozen others were injured during a three-alarm fire in an apartment building Wednesday morning in Concourse, Bronx.
The fire was first reported at 4:54 a.m. on the second floor of the building at 3211 Park Ave.
On arrival, firefighters were met with heavy fire that had extended into the hallway and up through an interior void, causing heavy smoke on all floors above, FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Michael Ajello said while giving an update from the scene.
Service members immediately stretched hoselines, performed searches and raised ladders, Ajello said.
At 5:19 a.m., firefighters called a third alarm due to the severity of the blaze.
Firefighters removed three unconscious residents who were reported to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
One person has been pronounced dead. Two others are in critical condition, and another is in serious condition.
An additional seven residents, as well as a firefighter, suffered minor injuries.
The department noted on social media that a vehicle blocked a fire hydrant outside the building.
The fire was deemed under control at approximately 6:40 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation with fire marshals.

One lady died at the hospital it was just reported by news 12 the Bronx. According to the neighbors in 3211 park the fire started in the 2nd floor at 3 am and they were heard arguing for one hour. It seemed as if they were trying to put it out themselves and arguing about who started it. They were seen taking out luggage out the apartment instead of alarming their neighbors and the fire department. This make me feel sooooo scared because I live in the building right next door. It make me feel like my neighbors don’t have my back. These folks need to go through some training of how to follow a proper protocol during a fire or just how to care for others. I don’t know how else to write this without feeling upset.
@curtbabygitl when I said they were heard arguing about “who started it “ it could have been one of them forgot to turn the stove off. So they were heard screaming “you did it, no you did it “ I am sorry if I typed that without elaborating on it.
Hope all tenants, firefighters and pets are safe.
