- Firefighters then reportedly opened the metal roll-down security gates to access and assess each of the three businesses, and confirmed there was a large fire in the middle unit that extended to the rear of the building and into the space between the ceiling and roofline.
- The blaze was eventually raised to a fourth alarm, and over 200 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene in total.
- As firefighters made entry through the rear of the building and began working to extinguish the blaze, the roof collapsed, trapping two, said Jardin.
- A mayday transmission immediately went out and firefighters began an assist and search team effort.
- The firefighters were found under a heavy section of roof that was involved in flames.
- The team quickly worked to free the trapped firefighters from the debris and remove them from the building.
- Both were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening. One of the firefighter's injuries included burns, Jardin stated.
- Firefighters were then able to resume their attempts to extinguish the blaze.
- The fire was deemed under control at 5:27 a.m., more than three hours after they arrived at the scene.
