One Person Killed, Five Injured After Eight Car Crash Near Lake Merced

An eight-vehicle collision left one person dead and five people hospitalized this morning in Lakeshore, police said.

At approximately 7:56 a.m., police responded to the intersection of Higuera Avenue and Lake Merced Boulevard after reports of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers discovered eight vehicles had crashed and requested medics to the scene.

According to a preliminary report from the SFPD, police located n injured man in the road who medics pronounced deceased on scene. Five additional people were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including a man in his 30’s or 40’s believed to have been responsible for the crash.

Officers established a crime scene and taped off the intersection.

Detectives from the SFPD Traffic Collision Investigation Unit and the Major Accident Investigation Team are involved in an ongoing investigation.
