Summary
- An armed man was shot and killed by NYPD narcotics officers in the Bronx on Thursday night, officials said.
- According to the NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan, at approximately 6:15 p.m., a sergeant and detective assigned to the Bronx Narcotics Division observed a dispute while they were stopped at a traffic light on the corner of East 233rd Street and Barnes Avenue in Wakefield.
- They quickly exited their vehicle while people were yelling for help. The officers saw a woman running east on East 233rd Street. A man armed with a large knife was chasing after her, Monahan said.
- The officers identified themselves and ordered the man to drop the knife several times.
- The man refused their commands, turned around, and ran toward the officers, Monahan said.
- The officers discharged a total of five to six rounds from their service weapons, striking the man.
- He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The man has not been identified by police.
- Monahan said the officers were taken to the hospital for observation.
- The woman who was being chased was not injured. She and the man were in a dispute recently according to Monahan, who said the dispute escalated when the man saw the woman on the street Thursday night.
- Officials said additional knives were recovered at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

I haven’t seen in the news, but I wonder if she is a woman of color? Her life deserves to be protected, and as many who obviously know better are pointing out...he was a moving target. So easy for people to say how officers should’ve handled a situation that as civilians we have never had to deal with. No one deserves to lose their life, but this does not so far appear to be carelessness by NYPD. On the contrary they saved a woman tonight. God bless everyone.
