Summary
A woman was fatally shot and six teenagers were wounded after two gunmen stormed a Sweet 16 party in Bed-Stuy Sunday night.
The victims’ ages ranged from 14 to 20 years old.
Police say the six teenage victims are expected to survive.
The shooting happened at approximately 11:17 p.m. when police received multiple calls of people shot in an apartment at 15 Albany Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found six victims suffering gunshot wounds: an 18-year-old woman shot in the leg, a 19-year-old man shot in the torso, an 18-year-old man shot in the leg, a 14-year-old girl shot in the lower part of the body, a 16-year-old boy shot in the torso, and a 15-year-old boy shot in the leg.
Police learned that a 20-year-old woman had also been shot in the lower part of the body and transported privately to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
In a press conference early Monday morning, police said that the shooting may have been connected to an earlier shooting in East New York, where the party was originally located before it was dispersed by police.
Just after 9 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg on the corner of Liberty Avenue and Crystal Street. Police believe he may have been present at the party.
The party was moved to the address on Albany Avenue after it was broken up, according to police.
Police said that ballistic evidence showed that the shooting started outside the building and continued through the lobby and up the stairwell to the third floor where the party was held.
Police believe more than one shooter was involved, as no less than two guns were used.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
