Summary
- A man riding an electric bike was killed after being struck by a Chevy Tahoe at East 97th Street and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan Sunday afternoon, the NYPD says.
- Officers later found the responsible vehicle unoccupied near 96th Street and 3rd Avenue. Police are still searching for the driver.
- Police initially responded to the East Harlem intersection around 4:28 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 42-year-old man lying in the road with trauma to his body.
- The victim was transported to a nearby hospital by EMS personnel, where he was pronounced dead.
- Based on a preliminary investigation, police determined that the e-bike rider was traveling southbound on 2nd Avenue when he was struck by a black Chevy Tahoe traveling westbound on 97th Street.
- The Chevy Tahoe fled the scene and was later found unoccupied a few blocks away.
- No arrests have been made. The NYPD Highway Division’s Collision Investigation Squad will continue to look into the fatal crash.

Drivers seriously need to be more careful. The bikers need to learn defensive biking!
