E-Biker Struck, Killed in Hit-And-Run

Summary

  • A man riding an electric bike was killed after being struck by a Chevy Tahoe at East 97th Street and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan Sunday afternoon, the NYPD says.
  • Officers later found the responsible vehicle unoccupied near 96th Street and 3rd Avenue. Police are still searching for the driver.
  • Police initially responded to the East Harlem intersection around 4:28 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 42-year-old man lying in the road with trauma to his body.
  • The victim was transported to a nearby hospital by EMS personnel, where he was pronounced dead.
  • Based on a preliminary investigation, police determined that the e-bike rider was traveling southbound on 2nd Avenue when he was struck by a black Chevy Tahoe traveling westbound on 97th Street.
  • The Chevy Tahoe fled the scene and was later found unoccupied a few blocks away.
  • No arrests have been made. The NYPD Highway Division’s Collision Investigation Squad will continue to look into the fatal crash.
