Summary

San Francisco Firefighters extinguished what officials called an "encampment and wildland fire" near the 1800 and 1900 blocks of Oakdale Avenue.

At around 11:30 a.m., Friday, user footage showed flames and thick, black smoke rising from plant life in the area.

Within minutes, firefighters reported that they were heading to the area for a report of a smoke condition.

San Francisco Fire Department Public Information Officer Lieutenant Jonathan Baxter arrived at the scene and broadcast live on Citizen.

Baxter said the fire broke out at a homeless encampment, and that debris from the encampment and brush in the area were affected.

There were no occupants in the encampment at the time of the fire, Baxter said.

The 1800 and 1900 blocks of Oakdale Avenue were shut down for the duration of fire departments operations in the area.

Due to the incidents proximity to train tracks, officials say some trains into the city may be delayed.
