Man Fatally Shot by Police in Queens

A man was fatally shot by police after a gunfire exchange in Rochdale, Queens Thursday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., NYPD warrant officers were surveilling a house after receiving information that a suspect of a prior non-fatal shooting was residing there.

The man left the home and got in a car. Officers followed and attempted to pull him over, but the man sped off. Shortly after, the man crashed the car into another vehicle and fled on foot.

The units began a foot pursuit, eventually leading to an area near the intersection of near 144th Avenue and 183rd Street.

According to police, the man then drew two firearms. The pursuing officers then commanded the man to drop the guns and the man fired four shots. Seven officers returned fire, striking the man.

Paramedics transported the man to Jamaica Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The seven officers were taken to area hospitals for evaluation. Two reported having tinnitus but none were directly injured in the shooting.

Police said 45 minutes prior to the pursuit, the suspect posted a picture on social media holding two firearms.
