Six Firefighters Injured in Three-Alarm Warehouse Blaze

Six firefighters were injured while battling a three-alarm fire at a warehouse in the Bronx on Wednesday, officials said. 

Fire crews responded to a report of a fire at 551 East 179th Street near Monterey Avenue around 12:15 p.m.

Arriving units confirmed there was heavy smoke and fire at the commercial building. 

Additional firefighters responded to help contain the blaze in the one-story warehouse which quickly grew to a three-alarm. The fire burned through the roof of the business causing it to partially collapse.

The area surrounding the warehouse was evacuated as a precaution and streets were closed while emergency crews operated at the scene.  

Nearby residents were also advised to close their windows due to the extensive smoke.

According to fire officials, six firefighters sustained minor injuries during the hours-long operation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
