One Worker Dead, Another Injured After Collapse at Work Site

11:47 AM, THURSDAY – Firefighters responded to a report of a man trapped under debris at a work site following a collapse. Citizen user video showed rescue personnel attempting to free the man. Firefighters soon reported that the victim had died as a result of his injuries. A second victim was also identified. He was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center with serious injuries. Fire officials do not know what caused the collapse. According to officials, both of the victims were workers at the site. The New York City Department of Buildings has issued a stop work order at the location and their investigation into the incident is ongoing. The Department had previously issued a partial stop work order at the same location following a fence collapse in 2018.

One of the workers has been pronounced deceased.

Officers advise both victims are en route to a nearby hospital.

Firefighters on scene advised two people were injured during a collapse at a demolition site. The first victim is being treated by EMS for minor injuries. The second victim sustained major injuries and is being prepped for transfer to a nearby hospital.

Officers now report the victim has sustained life-threatening injuries. The current condition of the worker is unknown at this time.
