Man, Woman Killed in Park Slope Apartment Fire

UPDATE: 3:16 PM WEDNESDAY: An updated report from the NYPD states that the woman has died as a result of her injuries. 2:07 AM WEDNESDAY: FDNY and NYPD personnel responded to a 911 call of a fire on the fourth floor of 115 5th Ave. Arriving firefighters were quick to confirm a blaze on the top floor of an apartment building; around the same time, Citizen user @NYUChemE broadcast footage of smoke pouring from a row of windows, along with firefighters making their way into the structure. After escalating into a two-alarm response, the fire was brought under control around 3 AM. During operations, a 22-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were found inside of the location, both unconscious and responsive. EMS personnel transported both victims to a nearby hospital, where the man was pronounced deceased. The woman remains in critical condition. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the FDNY Fire Marshal.

Firefighters report the fire has been extinguished. The two people injured are civilians and being treated at a local hospital.

Firefighters advise the fire is under control.

Firefighters believe they will soon extinguish the blaze.

Haz-Mat teams are also en route to assist.

The two people injured reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries.

Two people have sustained injuries and are being transported to local hospitals.

Police advise one person may have sustained injuries from the fire.

Firefighters have activated a second alarm for the fire, requesting additional help to the scene from nearby firehouses.
