Water Main Break Floods Street, Disrupts Train Service

UPDATE: At about 7:47 a.m., Sunday, firefighters responded to a water main break at Central Park West & W 102nd St. Intrepid Citizen users rushed to the scene, capturing video of the flooding from many angles. The floodwaters began seeping into the subway tunnels, and firefighters were forced to turn off power between 86th Street and 116th Street on the West side, suspending service on the A, B, C and D lines. Video captured by user @BKriegstein showed the extensive flooding and repair efforts. By 9:00 a.m., firefighters reported that they were able to stem the flow of water. Train service resumed with delays at 12:30 p.m.

At this time, there is no estimate as to when stations will reopen.

Firefighters have successfully stemmed the flow of water from the main break. However, nearby subway stations continue to experience flooding and will remain closed for the time being.

A firefighter stated that the flow of water has been shut off at the site of the break itself. No additional information has been provided regarding the expected duration of track power shutoff.
