Blaze Burns Third-Floor Apartment

Firefighters in Astoria on Friday morning responded to a raging fire that broke out on the top floor of a three-story building on Steinway Street just north of 28th Avenue. User video showed flames shooting out of the windows and roof vents of the building. After a little more than an hour, the fire was brought under control. Three firefighters and one civilian all sustained minor injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

EMS reports that one additional firefighter sustained minor injuries but refused medical attention.

Firefighters conducted a secondary search of the building and confirm there were no other trapped or injured residents in the building.

The fire has been declared under control.

Fire operations are still ongoing. Three injuries have been reported; one civilian suffered minor injuries, along with two firefighters.

One firefighter is reported to have minor injuries.

FDNY personnel have not located any people in the building during their follow-up searches. They believe that the rest of the fire will be contained with the current resources on scene.
