Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Private Sanitation Truck

At approximately 4:06 a.m. Thursday, police responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle near 86th St & Bay Pkwy. Upon their arrival, officers discovered an adult woman in the roadway who was unconscious and unresponsive with severe body trauma. The victim was pronounced dead by medics at the scene of the collision. Further investigation by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a private sanitation truck was traveling east on 86th St when the pedestrian crossed the street and was struck mid-block. The victim’s body was dragged several feet before coming to rest in the intersection. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene, and no arrests have been made.

Additional officers have been called to the scene for a crowd control situation.

Specialized collision investigation personnel were called to the scene to investigate.
