Dog Fatally Shot by Secret Service Agent

At 9:53 p.m., Monday, Citizen reported that police were responding to a shooting at 33 Caton Place. Shortly thereafter, reports came in over the radio that a dog had been shot. Police arriving at the scene confirmed that shots were fired and requested an ambulance to the scene. Officers soon confirmed that a dog had been shot by an off-duty Secret Service agent. Citizen users broadcast video of police and EMS at the scene. The NYPD has declined to comment on the situation, instead deferring to the Secret Service. A spokesperson for the Secret Service told Citizen that “an off duty Secret Service employee was involved in the shooting of an unrestrained and aggressive canine in Brooklyn, NY yesterday. As this is an ongoing investigation, the Secret Service will not have further comment.” The agency also stated that although the dog was wearing a leash, it was not secured and the owner was not present.
