Five Injured After Fire Spread From First-Floor Apartment

According to officials, at 9:06 a.m., Monday, firefighters responded to a report of a fire in an apartment building at 2402 Benson Avenue. Firefighters arriving at the scene transmitted an all-hands signal, calling for more trucks and personnel to the scene. Citizen users broadcast video of thick black smoke rising from the building. A 911 caller reported that residents were jumping from the building to escape the flames, but these reports were not verified by officials. User video captured by @uphigh2000 shows residents utilizing the fire escapes to escape the inferno inside of the building. It took 60 firefighters and EMS personnel just under an hour to place the situation under control. Of the five people who were injured, one was listed in critical condition, another in serious, but non life-threatening condition. The other three injuries were minor. Firefighters still don’t know what caused the fire or where it started. The investigation is still ongoing.
